Quintin 10 – Old Priorians 73
As starts go, its probably not the best, however the newly inserted opposition were always going to be a tough proposal, probably summed up in the words of Tom ‘the difference was they were a few years nearer school than us’.
The big positive to take from the game was the committed attitude shown by Q’s to play until the final whistle. The one sided score line doesn’t suggest that for period at both the start of the game and near the end Quintin managed to string some phases together and push Old Priorians onto the back foot.
Q’s went down early to the first try, when caught short on the blindside, and even though responded well to pull back a penalty fairly quickly, which was ably dispatched by Sanger.
It was one-way traffic after though, with Old P’s playing with great continuity, passing out of the tackle constantly meaning the Q’s defence could not get organised. A couple of injuries didn’t help with Q’s defence but on the day the opposition were just far too good.
A further injury with 20 minutes left and no substitutes saw Wixey put down his clipboard and rejoin the fray for a welcome return. It was great to see the Welshman back on the field and almost instantly sniffing around like a lost poodle for contact. This lifted the team and led to a well deserved consolation score following a period of pressure, brilliantly finished by Carter under the posts with Sanger dispatching the extra’s.
No win and a heavy score but some positives to take from the game for next week, we’ve never been great starters but where you finish is the only thing that matters.
Man of the Match: Johnny. Constantly in the face of the opposition and never giving up.
Girl of the Match: Ciaran. Spoiling Rob's return to the game by giving him the tightest shirt possible....... Thats just mean!!!!
