Ealing 5 – 27 Quintin
This was a game of two halves, which after a slow start ended in a comfortable victory.
Fielding a club side that was a few short Q’s had to borrow a few players to bolster the numbers, which may be a a reason as to why they failed to get into gear in a poor first half effort. First five minutes aside Ealing dominated play based on a strong scrum. The scrum provided a solid platform from where a pick and drive from the number 8 led to their only try.
Once Q’s found their feet and the back started to fire the game was only going one way, with Robinson using his delicate side stepping skills to plunder three tries. The pick was a move which involved man of the match Wixey on his first start setting up a lovely inside ball. Robinson has a unique style of finishing when faced with an open try line and a lone Ealing fullback scrabbling across, he kindly waited for the full back to arrive and sort out his footing before he crashed straight over him sending him reeling and touched down.
Their could have been a better try, Q’s winning possession on their 22m floated the ball wide, the backs all fired, straightening and offloading before the challenge. Nimmo crossed the line, to score, except he didn’t, he kept ongoing, which he later explained was down to trying to get the ball under the posts, instead he carried on past the dead ball line, failing to score.
A loaned Ealing player completed the scoring with a great effort to run in from 50 metres as well as some useful encouragement for Q’s to dish out some ‘treatment’ to his team mates, under the explanation they need to learn!
