Kiwi Dreads and Russell's Fear of Sodam!!
The mighty seconds travelled out to Harrow to play SODAM. There was a good feeling in the air, mid week rain had softened the ground, the fearless chubby cosmonaut was back and Vinesey was nowhere to be seen...
Everyone that mattered turned up on time for a 3pm kick off...Flash a kilo or 2 lighter thanks to the nights before’s Cottage Chicken. From the minute the ref came sniffing round the changing room looking like he was more eager than anyone else, we knew that certain players would have to show some restraint or he could penalise us off the park. With the usual Quintin warm up out the way...introducing yourself to new players...we were ready to roll...the eagerness showed through early, with the ‘public servant’ aka talentless managing a very premature “on 3 – squeeze”
Right from the start our dominance thanks to our athletic forward pack where the average age was the right side of 40. Frustratingly SODAM had a few players who forgot which team they were on and regularly found themselves on our side of the ruck...however continued pressure meant that we opened the scoring first thanks to a determined charge over the line from new man Jono?
Sporting 2 genuine (Kiwi) locks providing some quality lineout ball, front row that had the better off their opposites (Pookie you looked surprisingly comfortable there), loose forward trio that was watertight in defence with Dylan providing go forward from the back of the scrum and a backline that looked dangerous every time they touched the ball quins started to run amuck. Mc Ian embracing his promotion to the 2nds by linking up with the ever dangerous kiwi import at first five to dot down, Robbo manhandling his opposite to score under the posts... Saunders, who's Saunders?...,kiwi import finishing off some good forward work to cross the line and jimmy munro opening his quintin account for the year with a strong lizard like run through the middle of the ruck. Nick continued his strong form off the field and managed to knock over a few conversions...after much more talented players had failed...first half ended with Robbo kindly picking up his opposite and discarding him over the sideline.
With a few subs coming on for the second half Quins lost no time putting the game out of SODAM’s reach, Rob G taking the fat mans track up the middle to couple tries under the post, Flash showing an extra yard of pace due to his new diet...to finish off a nice build up and dotted down...but the biggest revelation was Howie...running some great lines and showing some real toe he managed to get not one but two 40m tries...jimmy munro showed his chav side and started to pick fights...
Overall a very convincing team performance with forwards and backs linking well...but probably the highlight of the day was not just angryman turning up with 10min to go, but the fact that he had invited 2 female friends (calls one his gf...) to watch him play in the aid of raising his muscularity levels...only for them to arrive separately to him, on time and watch the whole game without him even taking part...classic !!
final score: Quintin II 58 - SODAM 7
Moral of the week: don’t rely on public transport to get you from Soho to Harrow on time for a rugby game after a night on the poppers , Russell!!!
man of the match : Sam - more action than mouth for once!
honourable mention : Paddy - brilliant lines and passing, Todd - great debut....Jono A - great lineouts..great running
girl of the match : Flash - for leaving the ball for Talentless...leaving the ball to go into touch...going off injured after less than 5 minutes..
dishonourable mention : Russell - for arriving late with his imaginary girlfriends... Talentless...for too many things...mostly heading the ball!
