The Sepand Six and a few Quintin and The Gay Hussars of Hampstead!

I put out the normal cry for help on Tuesday last.....The response was astounding....by Wednesday lunchtime...there were 22 in the squad for Saturday....

So we arrived at the Hampstead Heath Extension with 13 players and Talentless...we warmed up....a bit, but not too much in the current economic climate....we learnt the names of the Sepand Six.....and we were ready....

At kick-off, we immediately lost the ball as Cockring was having a bad day in the kick-off receiving department....but low and behold, we conceded no points in the first few minutes.....

We took the lead after a few minutes through Sepand No 6.....as a result of a good run and final pass from Sepand 2....after some great forward and back play.....

Hampstead came back .........with two tries.....but we came at them with another after an astonishing move started by Sam...through Lee....onto Sepand 3....Sepand 5...Sepand 4.....Howe and Why........Sepand 6....Sepand 1...back to Sepand 5, who scored on the right wing.....fantastic....10-10 at halftime....

Half time round up of the ground : pack, now including Shakes, played marvellously well....2 or 3 scrums against the head......Sam and Lee both gained yards through boot and hand...brilliant!.....The Sepand 6 ran the hearts out with some great rugby league angles....Howe was better than ever....

Second half more of the same....but with no score until late in the half...when Sam took ball from the back of the scrum...ran 25 metres..offloaded to Sepand 3, who scored....Lee converted one of our tries so we lead 17-10....cooking with gas!!!!

Sadly, then the wheels fell off the classic car.....Talentless decided that the scrum was in the wrong place and in a fit of honesty...asked the ref to move it in 5..so that we could win against the head...unfortunately, the squealing pig (Rear Gunner Vines) failed to take the ball.....their fly-half attempted a drop goal...missed....but our waiting defender slipped and missed the ball allowing Hampstead to ground it for the try....then converted it.....final whistle went!!

Epilogue : We had a marvellous afternoon......with a totally scratch side....with some new lads...against a good bunch....with the help of a sensible and not too serious ref...supported by a vocal crowd!! you couldn't ask for more from your Saturday afternoon....we then adjourned to the White Horse for Thai chicken curry and beers.....

Bloody Fantastic!!!

Final score: 17 - 17….

Man of the match: J Rushton …for his leadership, fearless tackling and keeping me out of the front row!!
Honourable mention : Sepand 3..Number 17...whatever his name was.....played both centre and flanker...a star!...
Girl of the match : Shakes and Cockring ……for being the powerhouse that nearly won us the game
Dishonourable mention : Talentless and Vines for not winning the final scrum, which allowed Hampstead to score the equalising try....and the Sepand Six for being Aussie and too good for their own good!
