Vines passed around the snuff (fortunately we were spared the Lube), then on field captain May Lee gave his instructions before the kick off - first phase keep it tight, second phase spin it out to the backs.
The game started evenly, with London Scottish running well in the forwards and Quintin countering this with superior back play. After around 10 minutes, Quintin started to get their tactics into play. Newcomer Rob was having a stormer on the flank, and crossed the line first. Quintin scored another and maybe started to become complacent when Scottish showed how organised they were when they crossed for their first try.
From here onwards, Quintin started to heed the directions from May Lee, with the forwards bursting from fringes, making the yards, and recycling quickly for the lightning back line to score. The direct running style was further enhanced when Albi came on at No.8. Jim Kenny had to come off with a cramping right hand – afterwards in the bar he was claiming that the rerun of Baywatch on Living TV was unrelated to his injury. His position was taken by 3rd XV stalwart Smythe, a man of limited looks and ability.
The second half was much of the same – as Scottish tired, their defence weakened, and Quintin ended up finishing strongly. This victory will set us up well for the next month against Staines IV this weekend
Man of Match: Rob – storming running inspired the rest of the forwards
Girl of the Match: Albi – dropped the ball with a clear run to the line
Try scores: Too numerous to mention, but fortunately did not include either Cooney or Smythe.
